You jump, I jump, Jack.

If you want to get to know me, the first thing that you have to understand is that I LOVE the television show, "Gilmore Girls". I think this part of the show, Season 5 Episode 7, is a great way to start this blog as my first post.
So, some backstory, the girl in the above picture, Rory, is one of the main characters. The boy is Logan. Logan comes from a very rich and affluent family and while Rory has grandparents that are also wealthy and affluent, her more immediate upbringing was less..."fancy".
In the above image, we are at the scene where Logan has finally convinced Rory to climb up this gigantic structure to only jump off it while holding umbrellas. And, yes, harnesses were used, so don't get any ideas people! Anyway, I like to think that this is Rory's true first act of doing something crazy, out of her norm, and launching herself into a whole new world. After all, while Rory is still Rory, from climbing to the top until the time that she lands Rory goes through a metamorphosis. After she lands, she is a "new" Rory and all it took was a guide.
While perhaps not the best example, Logan places Rory in a situation where she has to make a decision. Stay on the ground and remain the same or climb up and jump off into a whole new world? This was a huge turning point for Rory, and we can learn a lot from this scene.
I believe that if we are to reach our best selves and if we truly want to become the person that we aspire to be, we must also go through a metamorphosis. And while we can acknowledge that something needs to change perhaps, we cannot do it on our own. This is where a guide, or a mentor, comes into play.
There is no way that Rory, on her own, would have done something like this. There was a spark inside of her, but it had to be pulled out in order for it to have the oxygen needed to flare up. Logan was that guide for her. He was able to help Rory through that process of metamorphosis and we can experience the same thing.
I, myself, have a mentor. Her name is Sami, and she is amazing. She has been able to assist me with my limiting beliefs and all the gremlins that I have in my head. She is helping me be my best self for my family, my community, and for myself. Sami inspired me and I am taking this inspiration and creating this blog from it.
This blog is for me to track my progress, have a place to write out my thoughts, and perhaps you can find inspiration as well.
So, what did we learn today? We talked about how I am koo-koo for Gilmore Girls and how in a particular scene in the show we can see a main character go through a change that was assisted by a guide. We can translate that into our own lives by looking at parts of ourselves that are nagging us or that we "know" needs or wants to be changed and how a guide or a mentor can help us with that process and help pull out of us our best self.
Thanks for reading.
Be the Change,
-Stevon
