Hello, friends.
This blog post is going to be about gratitude.
Before having Sami as my coach, I did not realize, truly, how much I have to be grateful for. And sure, I knew in the back of my mind that as a white male born in North America that I have a ton of opportunity and things to be grateful for. But, the issue is that sometimes when you're so close to the situation you overlook things.
Too often we go through our daily life thinking about all of the things that we have to do. Oh, I have to do the laundry. Oh, I have to pick up the kids. Oh, I have to, I have to, I HAVE to.
Let's look at that. Go ahead and say that out loud, "I have to". How does that feel? For me, it felt heavy. A literal weight on my shoulders. Sometimes, it even felt suffocating.
So, here is the question... do we truly HAVE to do anything? I mean sure, if we do not do something there could be consequences, but ultimately, you still have a decision.
And, since you have that decision, why not shift your mindset about how you view the things that you're doing in your everyday life.
To the parent whose child passed away, being able to pick up the child from school would be amazing.
To the person paralyzed in a wheelchair, walking up the stairs would be magnificent.
To the broke single mother with an empty fridge, being able to buy fresh groceries at the grocery store would be a godsend.
At the end of the day, if you want to turn your life around into a more positive and happier one, you can take the opportunities in your everyday life and reframe how you view them. I am getting into the habit of writing 5 things that I am grateful for every morning. It might not seem like this task will change a lot but believe me when I tell you that it has helped me so much.
I welcome you, challenge you, encourage you to give it a try. Write 5 things every day that you're grateful for. Do it for 30 days straight. See what happens.
Be the change,
-Stevon
